Gdpr- Its role and how it affects internal audit
Summary:
Given the new Community Directive adopting the new regulatory framework for GDPR –which addresses to all active business entities operating within the European Union, irrespective of the business sector to which they belong- , there is no doubt that the workload and obligations of these business units are multiplied. At this point, the essential role played by the internal control department of the business units should be taken into account, since it is responsible for achieving their proper functioning and organization. Therefore, it can be assumed that there is a direct and linkage between the new GDPR regulatory framework and the role played by the Internal Audit Department, each of them undertaking the regulatory framework addressed. This issue has attracted our research interest and for this reason it has also been the major issue we are dealing within the current thesis paper. In the current research it was concluded that the legislation of GDPR didn’t affect the internal audit procedure, but it became a part of it. For a more detailed analysis, we carry out not only a bibliographic review but also a qualitative and quantitative primary research which is based on two major hospitals of Athens.
