Πατρική λειτουργία και οριακός ασθενής
Translated title:
Paternal function and borderline patient
Summary:
The aim of this study is to examine the paternal function related to the borderline patient. The main question of the study deals with the quality of the paternal function and how it affects the mental apparatus of the borderline patient. The mental function of the borderline patient is characterized by a lack of integration, the dominance of primitive defense mechanisms, a continuous shift between autonomy and confusional states, as well as a persistent attack on thought. The paternal function must facilitate the differentiation of the subject from the primitive object. This study examines whether the paternal function as a third pole affects positively or negatively the transition from a symbiotic phase to a separation-individuation phase. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how the qualitative deprivation of the father function facilitates the development of the borderline state. The clinical material of patient, with him the author worked psychotherapeutically in a psychodynamic approach, is used.
