Summary:
Theoretical background: The phenomenon of burnout, the so-called Burnout, is a symptom of both physical and mental exhaustion, which occurs after repeated inadequate attempts to deal with stressful workplace situations. Contemporary studies in the field of hospital management link the depletion of healthcare professionals with patient satisfaction.
Purpose: The purpose of this work is to conduct a thorough study and research of burnout syndrome in healthcare professionals to understand whether this syndrome can have a significant impact on the quality of health services provided.
Material-Methodology: To achieve the above objective a bibliographic review will be implemented, through international, Greek and online bibliography. Subsequently, research will be carried out at the General Hospital "Panagia Odigitria" using two tools, two different questionnaires, one addressed to the clinic professionals and the other to the patients of the clinic. A more detailed description of the research tools and sample will be given below.
Results: The results of the present work confirmed the presence of occupational burnout in Greek health units and highlighted its correlation with years of service and monthly income. Patients were also found to be quite satisfied.
Conclusions: Concerning the two main variables of the study, low to moderate exhaustion seems to be significantly associated with patient satisfaction.
