Utilization of Theatrical Techniques to Reinforce Peer Acceptance within an informal education context
Summary:
The present thesis explores ways through which the reinforcement of peer acceptance can be applied within an informal education context based on Social Pedagogy and the utilization of relevant theatrical techniques. An action research methodology was followed in order to design and implement this research. For the purpose of its study we drew material from Theater-in-Education Pedagogy, which combines elements from psychology, pedagogy and social sciences. Data was collected through participant observation, informal conversational interviews and sociometric tests. Furthermore, a series of three Interventions Circles were designed in the format of six theater-in-education workshops which were held in the Social Center situated in Athens (Kipseli). The outcome of the research acknowledges significant positive contribution of the use of theatrical techniques in terms of reinforcement of peer acceptance, revealed through improvement of children’s social relationships, documented improvement of the group’s cohesion, as well as amelioration of social skills and increase of social positive behavior.
