Dreams and Literature: The function of dreams in "The Neverending Story" by Michael Ende
Summary:
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the presence and the function of the dream in the
fantasy book for children, "The Neverending Story", written by the German author Michael Ende. At the same time, given the relevance between the thoughts of the writer on dreams and children’s play and those of Sigmund Freud, the presence of the dream inside "The Neverending Story" is being discussed in comparison to the theoretical essay of the psychoanalyst "Creative Writers and Day-dreaming". This comparison gives prominence to yet another function of the dream in the text, proving the correlation that exists between literature and psychology or, more specifically, psychoanalysis.
