Evaluation of the factors affecting the process of patient clinical handover by ambulance crews in emergency departments.
Summary:
The studies on the procedure of Clinical Handover of patients used in the present study involved the transfer of patients with an ambulance to the hospital. Considerable attention was paid to the points before and during the handover of patients between the ambulance crew and the nursing staff. The issues identified in this study came from several countries and can provide an insight into how to update and improve ambulance delivery practices and services. The bibliographic review has shown an increasing activity in the publication of surveys, which were mainly coming from the US, Australia, the United Kingdom and Northern Europe. The identified problematic points were grouped into 4 categories: Means and communication mode, Communication environment, Professional relations and Standardization of patient delivery process. Finally, the proposals for the application of the bibliographic review results to the Greek reality were discussed for the evaluation and improvement of the practises applied in this field.
