Summary:
This study examines the impact of the School Director on the education staff in the creation and maintenance of school cohesion. School cohesion is studied in terms of task as well as social cohesion.
More specifically, it investigates how commitment to a common goal, participatory decision-making and collaborative culture promoted by the school principal are related to task and social cohesion. This paper was conducted by analyzing quantitative research and was based on data collection using a questionnaire.
The analysis of the opinions of 114 primary education teachers concluded that the commitment to a common goal and a collaborative culture promoted by the school principal is positively related to social cohesion. Participatory decision-making as well as the culture of cooperation are also positively related to task cohesion.
However, gender does not seem to be related to task and social cohesion. The research indicates the importance of collaborative practices followed by a school leader, such as active participation in decision-making, commitment to a common goal and the promotion of a collaborative culture in the creation and preservation of school cohesion.
