Summary:
ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and parental involvement with the school climate through the perceptions of pupils of the fifth and sixth grade of a private school. The study was attended by 123 students who completed the following 3 self-report questionnaires: a) Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Child Form, b) (Parental Involvement in Sport Questionnaire), which translated and adapted for the lessons by the researcher and c) Classroom Life Measure. The results of the present study concluded that emotional intelligence scales correlated with educational self-esteem, cohesion, resource interdependence, and teacher academic support (school climate scales). Also, praise/understanding of parents is associated with teacher's educational support and educational self-esteem. In addition, motivation predicted cohesion, educational self-esteem positively, and competitive learning negatively. Emotional regulation predicted competitive learning negatively. Emotional regulation predicted competitive learning negatively. In addition, the peer relationship provided for teacher cohesion, education, and personal support. Parental involvement did not predict the school climate. There was no statistically significant difference in the variables mentioned above about sex. Concerning the classes, the fifth grade students showed more motivation and relationships with their peers than the sixth grade students. A very interesting finding of the present study is the fact that students with low levels of school climate variables tend to exhibit a low level of emotional intelligence and healthy parental involvement, compared to students with high levels of school climate variables.
