The use of Microfinance as a lever of growth in the Greek economy
Summary:
Microfinance refers to financial services provided for medium and low incomes. It concerns an economic process that offers credit to an individual who wants to develop an economic activity but has no funds or access to systemic banks to obtain a small-sized bank loan (SME funding tool and new entrepreneurs). Mixed research was selected with the combined use of a semi-structured interview and a questionnaire. The sample of the survey concerns executives of microfinance institutions. Microfinance is an important and useful financing tool. However, its use by non-banking institutions appears to be more efficient because it is more person-centered without strictly embracing the financial criteria of traditional banking. Microfinance generally has a positive impact on the economy (significant business success) but also on combating unemployment and boosting entrepreneurship. Microfinance offers significant benefits to the Greek Economy and the market. However, there is no help from the Greek state in a regulatory framework.
