Contribution of the educative platform ILS (Inquiry Learning Spaces) in teaching the evolution theory through inquiry
Summary:
Teaching not only Biology but also all the Natural Sciences can be funnier and more effective using the latest technology achievements. In particular, the Information and Communication Technologies along with different teaching methods which focus on students’ needs, such as the exploratory learning, can provide students with motivation and encourage them to join in the class more efficiently. The online platform Go-Lab (Global Online Science Labs for Inquiry Learning at School) includes an exploratory procedure with numerus virtual laboratories and online applications supporting the students’ effort to discover knowledge on their own. The current thesis focuses on the contribution of the online platform Go-Lab in Biology teaching and specifically in genetics and in natural choice through investigation. The duration of the course is 3 hours. Samples are taken from 193 bachelor students of the 3rd year of The Department of Primary Education. The mixed analysis of a case study was chosen for data analysis. In order to estimate the educational results using the online platform Go-Lab and to evaluate the course, students answered a questionnaire. The effectiveness of the course was evaluated through closed-ended questions and the answers were translated for the current research. The answers have shown an improvement on the results using the online platform Go-Lab.
