Teachers' attitudes and opinions on the difficulties that immigrant students face
Summary:
A large number of studies have been conducted on teachers' attitudes towards inclusion. Integration and inclusion are concerned with the pursuit of equality, social justice, participation and also, with the elimination of all forms, assumptions and practices of exclusion. The purpose of this research is to investigate teachers' views on integration and the difficulties faced by immigrant students. The survey involved 134 teachers of all backgrounds. Four scales were used to collect the data. The first measures teachers' views on inclusion, the second concerns teacher effectiveness in using inclusive practices, the third concerns the perception of the teachers about the difficulties that foreign students face and the last one, shows the role of the teacher in multiculturalism. The results showed that teachers have positive feelings about inclusion, assessing their effectiveness in using inclusive instruction, collaboration and behavior management. In addition, teachers assessed students' difficulties as above the average in interpersonal communication, school efficacy and adaptation, perception of classroom influence, and general self-esteem. It has also been found that when teachers' concerns about co-education are reduced, their effectiveness in using co-instruction guidelines is improved. Finally, it has been found that those who have been trained in intercultural education programs compared to those who have not been trained, have a higher degree of effectiveness in using inclusion guidelines and effectiveness in co-operation while exhibiting worse inclusion behavior.
