Summary:
The topic and the distinct title of the present Master’s Thesis is: “Cross-curricular Approaches of Parnassida’s Music, Dance and Custom Tradition-Teaching Recommendations for the Secondary Education”. The purpose of this thesis is the cross-thematic approachofdifferent aspects of Parnassida’s popular culture’s within a multi-faceted investigation and consideration of the topics with which it deals.
An additional purpose of this thesis is the submission of suggestions for teaching the aspectsmentioned above in the Secondary Education, especially in junior high school classes. If these suggestions are properly adapted, they may be proven to be useful for the same purpose in other education grades, too. In this way, they may contribute to the enrichment of the proposals, which foster the utilization of the popular culture in the educational process.
The thesis is structured in two parts.
In the first part, the definitions of the concepts “Popular Culture” and “Folklore” are given. There is a theoretical approach of popular culture’s presencein education and how this is proposed to the Unified Cross-Curricular Framework (DEPPS) and the subsequent curricula for all subjects of junior high school, especially of physical education. Besides, various issues are examined, such as the pop culture’s adaptation in school curriculum and activities and in cultural projects of Fokida’s schools, the possibilities of being taught in Music Schools and whether it is possible to be applied in these schools considering the provided potentials.
In the second part, the method, with which the proposals for Parnassida’s popular culture’s teaching will be developed within the educational procedure, is ispresented. This is feasible through the creation of a lesson plan according to these proposals. This lesson plan will be applied as a cultural programme in high school activities. The title of this cultural programme is “Music, Dance and Custom Tradition of Parnassida” and it is expected to be accomplished within ten sessions. The teaching method is learner-centered, based on the cooperative learning, while the teacher has the role of an inspirer. Traditional teaching and contemporary strategies, such as presentations, narratives, informative visits and fieldwork, are used in conjunction with digital interventions through ICT and the use of the net.
