Alcohol use in Aegean Islands
Summary:
In this study we are going to examine the population of people living in five Aegean islands (Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini, Chios and Mitilini) concerning alcohol use. The sample of the study consisted of 204 persons (69 men and 135 women). The participants were provided with the reliable tool AUDIT test, which can assess the use, addiction and problems caused by the use of alcohol.
The study aims at charting the populations that are influenced more. Specifically, it concerns the calculation, study and registration of the trends, as well as indications of the Aegean population for each island, subject to sex and age. It also aims at exploring the socioeconomic trends regarding the degree of gravity in each and every case. A remarkable finding is the differences between the two sexes in all the domains examined.
An important advantage of the current study is its uniqueness, as it constitutes the first study of the Aegean populations, since the great majority of studies deal with the population living in the mainland of Greece. However, further studies should be carried out in the future to focus on the future proof planning of research. Finally, will be able to register more accurately the trends of alcohol use disorder in each region. The objective is to indicate the high risk populations as a consequence. This will make interventions more effective for the individuals mentioned.
