Summary:
The principles of the Appreciative Systemic Inquiry promote the school positive climate, to which school headmasters contribute.
First of all, a theoretical approach of the term Appreciative Systemic Inquiry is presented; analysis of the term, historical background, stage analysis and its basic principles are described. Moreover, the term is connected to leadership. Then, a description of the capabilities a leader should have is presented.
Afterwards, the empirical approach follows: the methodology used, the results of the research, the conclusions and finally the proposals. The results of the survey were based on a sample of 100 questionnaires given to secondary school principals in West Athens/Attica.
The results of the research revealed that school leaders try to be positive and collaborate productively with their colleagues, however, they need training to promote effective use of language (which contributes to positive climate formation), use past experience positively, be able to activate teachers’ background positive schemata, and to adopt long-term goals; fields which give space for further research.
