Summary:
The objective of this preliminary study is the detection of anthropogenic and geogenic sources of potential toxic elements in the surface area of Volos and Almyros. The aim of this research is to define the mineralogical characteristics of samples from steel slags, selected rocks, soil and road surfaces of the regions in question. The samples were processed by drying, manual removal of organic material and the use of a 2 mm sieve. This was followed by quartering for mass reduction and further sieving to -100 μm. The fine fraction was analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM). The post processing remaining products were filed for future use.
