Security issues in wireless networks
Summary:
The rapid growth of internet creates the need for increasing the bandwidth in mobile communications. Security issues have a decisive role for the right development of mobile communications. Consequently security mechanisms are applied in a specific way to ensure the integrity, the availability and the confidentiality of the data. The aim of this thesis is to promote security issues arising from the use of 4G-LTE networks and the previous such as 3G and 2G networks. At first presents the architecture of 4G-LTE network and the protocol architecture as well a detailed description of security levels compared with the previous networks. More specifically the Authentication and Key Agreement- AKA mechanism is very important so as to allow the network access with the right identification of the user. Additionally security issues concerning mobility management in a 4G-LTE network, security access in IMS network and proper application of Home Evolved Node B are arised. Concluding it focuses on vulnerabilities and risks that 4G-LTE networks have in the secure data trafficking as well as on attacks that can exploit these weaknesses against confidentiality, integrity and availability of the information tranferred.
