Summary:
The human resources from the one side and internal audit from the other, have been rapidly evolving according to the changes in the business environment. A lot of organizations are investing on designing and developing independent departments which are associated with the management of human resources and its audit internally. Senior management, the board of directors, shareholders and stakeholders in general are very interested about assurance, insights on risks and success on business objectives. The role of internal audit can be crucial not only to the human resources management but also to a strong corporate governance within the whole organization. The main scope of this dissertation is to describe the role of internal audit in Human Resources Management effectiveness and examine if an effective Internal Audit department can ensure that the goals and objectives of the organization are met. The collection of the data will be conducted through self-administered questionnaires which will be distributed to executives working in companies operating in Greece and more specifically to HR managers and internal auditors. A statistical analysis will finally take place to elicit a conclusion about whether and how internal audit can be useful to HRM success and business objectives generally.
