Summary:
This thesis examines the methods and models of music therapy at an international level by analyzing their basic outlines. Specifically, the six most popular models are presented: Guided Imagery and Music, Analytical Music Therapy, Creative Music Therapy, Benenzon's Music Therapy, Behavioral Music Therapy, and Community Music Therapy. Reference is also made to recent developments and directions in music therapy models. Then comes the connection of music therapy to the field of neuroscience, with references to neuroimaging and neurophysiological recording methods. In addition, the results of music therapy in medical, psychological and cognitive fields are presented following a series of experiments.
Following, the basic concepts and dimensions of music in the community are presented, with concrete examples of its use in various situations around the world, while promoting well-being and health. Afterwards experiments are analyzed that have been conducted in order to derive results on the impact of music on the community in specific cases.
Finally, the last chapter analyzes in detail the connection between music therapy and community music as the single model of "music therapy in the community". Furthermore, the basic practices and theoretical assumptions of the "consensus model" are described. The chapter concludes by drawing conclusions on the impact of music therapy on the community and its future use.
