Assesment of headache to patients with Schizophrenia
Summary:
Introduction: Headache is a common morbid condition that affects a significant proportion of the general population, while being a field of ongoing research to obtain more definitive answers. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the incidence of headache in patients with diagnosed schizophrenia who were clinically stable at that time and to compare it with healthy controls.
Method: A total of 70 individuals were included in this study: 40 schizophrenia patients and 30 healthy controls. A socio-demographic questionnaire, the Primary Headache Questionnaire, which was based on the diagnostic criteria of the first edition of the International Classification of Headaches (Headache Questionnaire, Gasparinatos, 2009) and Visual Measurement Scale, were used for data collection. Analog Pain). In addition, the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) was used only for the patient group.
Results: Data analysis revealed that the incidence of headache was high in both schizophrenic patients and controls. It was also observed that in the patient population there was an increased positive family history of headache / migraine compared to controls. There were no statistically significant differences in the severity of headache between the two groups. In addition, age or gender did not appear to be associated with both the occurrence of headache and the type of headache in both groups.
Conclusions: The present study does not show a low incidence of headache in the patient population compared to healthy or pain intensity variations as described in some of the international literature. Statistically significant differences are in the habits likely to influence the onset of headache as well as in the presence of a positive family history in the patient population.
