Parental typology (parenting style) in relation to Parental Acceptance-Rejection
Summary:
This thesis investigates the typology of parents in Grecce and their perceptions of Parental Acception–Rejection. The sample of the present study consists of 244 parents school children (6-12 years): 130 mothers and 114 fathers, aged 30 to 62 years. The geographical area of the survey is confined to Attica. The tools used to conduct the research were: 1) Questionnaire assessing the typology of Greek mother (Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire – PSDQ), 2) Questionnaire assessing the typology of Greek father (Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire – PSDQ), and 3) Questionnaire on Parental Acceptance–Rejection (Parental Acceptance–Rejection Questionnaire – PARQ). The results of the study showed that mothers are more authoritative, more authoritarian and more rigorous than fathers. Also, fathers are more permissive than mothers. Moreover, fathers tend to show more warmth/affection than mothers, and mothers more indifference/neglect compared to their mates. Parents’ educational level and family shape also influence parental type.
