Summary:
In this thesis we compare the learning impact of two types of interaction with a computer simulation : experimentation interactivity versus observation interactivity. In the first case students are using the simulation conduct virtual experiments and in the second case students are observing segmented video clips of the simulation at their own pace and sequence. It will be studied the treatment effect on both groups of students by comparing the understanding of the science concept involved in the simulation (that is the factors that influence the Chemical Equilibrium and the way they do that), the total time spent by each student to complete the task and the number of experiments conducted or observed. It will be assessed as well the cognitive load involved by applying the calculation of the instructional condition efficiency score E proposed by Paas and van Merriënboer. A total of 61 students of the 2nd grade of General Lyceum who follow science orientation were involved in this study.
