Summary:
This dissertation is about Error Analysis in the written language of non-native speakers who learn Greek as a second language. Its aim is to detect, record and categorise errors according to the levels of linguistic analysis in order to draw conclusions about the most common errors, taking into account two different levels of linguistic competence, elementary (A level) and intermediate (B Level). The method of Error Analysis which is used is considered important for the interpretation of the process to acquire the second language, as it reveals the points where the students make more errors, giving the teachers useful information.
At first the theoretical framework for second language acquisition is presented, basic concepts are analysed and previous reviews are mentioned. Then it is followed by the analysis of the sample that consists of 56 written language productions (28 of A level and 28 of B level) and the most representative samples of errors. After the statistical analysis of errors the conclusion is that the students faced more difficulties in the level of correct spelling.
