The effects of volcanic eruptions on health and the environment.
Summary:
Volcanic eruptions are a natural phenomenon that can cause very large disasters. Currently on our planet there are 1500 potentially active volcanic centers of which the 600 have exploded in the recent past and many still remain unknown.
In the Greece area there are 39 volcanoes, of which the most actively located in areas of the volcanic arc of the south Aegean. Therefore, the study and monitoring of volcanoes, in addition to their interest as natural phenomena, are urgently needed in order for people to be informed of their effects and protect themselves in the event of a violent volcanic eruption.
The present work deals with a matter of major importance which is of particular concern to specialists, researchers, physicians, the State and the whole of society in general.
The purpose of the thesis is to highlight the most essential impacts of volcanic eruptions on health and the environment. Its aim is to be a guide for anyone presenting research interest in volcanoes and their impacts.
At the beginning there will be a brief bibliographical review of the key elements related to volcanic eruptions. More specifically, reference will be made to the definition, description and classification of volcanoes based on certain parameters such as the geotectonic environment, their geographical distribution in space and time the explosiveness and their activity.
The effects of volcanic eruptions on human health (physical and mental) as well as the effects of volcanic eruptions on the natural and anthropogenic environment will be reported.
Finally, there will be a brief reference to the methods of forecasting and managing volcanic eruptions in order to avoid as long as possible the harmful effects that they may cause.
The method that will be used for the writing of this work is the bibliographical review. In particular, the present study will collect and be studied a number of research articles concerning the definition, description and classification of volcanoes, the impact of volcanic eruptions on health and the environment as well as the Prediction and management of volcanic eruptions.
