Civilian Evacuation Operations. Greek and International experience

This thesis described the civilian evacuation operations and their significance for a state that has expatriate citizens living in other states and which has the responsibility of protecting the lives and livelihoods of these citizens. These citizens live not only within the country but also elsewhere in the world, thus there must be protection for those people who live and work in countries inside and outside Europe.
As the civilian population may in some cases be subject to threats, it should be protected from extreme situations and disturbances by the armed forces and the diplomatists who contact the responsible authorities of the State in crisis and the citizens themselves with whom it communicates directly. This is how every civilian evacuation operation that transports the citizens of the States to a safe place is planned and executed. This project is particularly important at the political, diplomatic and military levels. The present paper also examined the environment in which these processes are performed, while examples from Greece and abroad were presented which explained the steps sufficiently. Yet, alongside these examples, concrete conclusions were drawn and suggestions were made as to how these processes should be made to succeed in the future.
