The presence of vegetation in industrial areas and its role in the development of the eco-industry

The modern urban space and the industrial areas are in urgent need of green areas that either surround it or are part of its interior to make a positive contribution to all areas of urban living (environmental conservation, sustainability, biodiversity, improvement of the quality of life).
On the other hand, last years the term eco-industry has been developed which is a field of study looking at reducing the environmental burden on industrial sites by investigating the consumption of raw materials and energy in industrial areas and the management of waste generated by activities in industrial areas. The present thesis examines the role of vegetation in the development of the eco-industry by investigating the presence of green spaces in the Industrial Areas of Greece, while examining and presenting good practices applied abroad. At the same time, the presence of green spaces and greenways within the Industrial Areas is investigated, as well as the review of legislation governing the Environmental Impact Assessments of Industrial Areas and their installations.
