Consciousness of Oneness: Identity and self-awareness during the ecstatic experience
Summary:
This thesis, drawn from a position of agnostic distancing, covers the manifestations of ecstatic experience as a prominent occurrence of the self-identification of the individual. The term "ecstasy" delineates the overbearing state of the rational being that certifies or implies, on the condition of a fundamental necessity, the expansion of consciousness beyond the boundaries of finite individuality and osmosis with what the human intellect conceived as supernal totality. On that basis, the related issues of phenomenology, henology, personal identity and freedom are also touched upon, with rudimentary references also to neuroscientific data. In light of the theism/atheistic existentialism duality, this philosophical dissertation raises globally the ontological question of man.
