The folk custome of ''Efta'' in Karpathos island. Historic and comparative approaches in the Dodecanese
Summary:
The study refers to the folk custome of ''Efta'' (= ''Seven'') in Karpathos island. More analytically, after seven days, or maybe later in some cases, from the birth of a child, relatives and friends of the family gather in the child's house, give their best wishes to the family and offer some gifts. After that, there is a festive ceremony in which all of the attenders take part. It is a ceremonial customary that is practised in the Dodecanese, mainly in Karpathos island, but it can also be found in other neighboring islands, like Kassos, Rhodes and Chalki. Additionally, throught Karpathian, and generally Dodecanesian, migrants, it is performed in Athens, in the United States of America, and also in Canada and Australia.
