Stem cells in the service of tumor treatment, new approaches - ethical and legal concerns
Summary:
Stem cells are the leading field in modern research, today perhaps more than ever. The new data on their properties will help to find potential treatments with application to degenerative diseases, regenerative medicine and of course to the treatment of tumors. In this systematic review, the categories of stem cells and the basic elements of their physiology and differentiation are developed. Next, reference is made to cancer stem cells and their differences from normal stem cells. In recent years, many different research programs have taken place, during which an attempt is made to use stem cells, and especially mesenchymal cells, for the treatment of cancer. Exosomes produced by mesenchymal cells, as well as themselves, have been tested as carriers of both drugs and proteins to inhibit tumor metastasis. It has also been found that these cells themselves secrete substances than inhibit tumor growth. On the other hand, the development and utilization of this sector for the benefit of human health, touches on ethical dilemmas as well as legal issues, which require a more detailed legal framework.
