Summary:
Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common cancers in
men in western countries and a major health problem (Zhou et al., 2016).
There is an increasing tendency for the onset of the disease at younger ages in recent years
years and the incidence rate is constantly increasing in Asian countries (The
GLOBOCAN project, 2010). More than 670,000 men are diagnosed each year
with prostate cancer (Cancer Research UK, 2009). In the US, one in six (16.7%)
Men will develop prostate cancer during their lifetime. Most
Men with prostate cancer will survive, resulting in more than 2.3
millions of survivors live in the US today (Altekruse et al, 2010).The frequency
The incidence of prostate Ca is constantly increasing as is systematic monitoring
(screening) which is becoming more and more widespread (Farley et al, 2015). However, the
prostate Ca mortality is relatively low [19.3 deaths per 100,000 patients]
(Farley, 2013
) while survival rates> 5 years ranged from 70% - 80% in most
European countries - during the period between 2005 - 2010 (Allemani et al, 2014)
