Antisocial behavior of adolescents: historical background
Summary:
The present thesis concerns the study of antisocial behavior / juvenile delinquency from earlier years until today, as nowadays law-violating actions are particularly prevalent among the youth. It is essential that these percentages be reduced as young people are the ones that will be integrated within society and take over positions and roles in the various aspects of social life. Furthermore, the research of this thesis is conducted in order to gather information concerning alternative forms of penalty beyond correctional facilities. Legislation and organizations play a decisive role in dealing with the various juvenile offenses. The processing of the research outcomes led to the conclusion that the juvenile justice system is lacking both in bibliography and in knowledge topics among professionals. Moreover, the study of respective European programs, the empowerment of the services involved, as well as the amendment of relevant laws can create a new justice system capable of assisting juvenile offenders in a substantial way. In conclusion, it appears that juvenile delinquency is a multifactorial issue and that professionals mostly provide supportive care to juvenile offenders.
