Summary:
The present dissertation examines the civil, criminal and administrative liability of the shipmaster as a key component of the effective environmental protection. Firstly, the position of the shipmaster is explained in the context of the internationalized civil liability which characterizes the navigation setting as reference point the international regulations of IMO, while at the same time the national dimension of such liability is being cited. Later on, the criminal aspect of the liability is set out through the analysis of the respective provisions as well as the most significant implications raised due to their application. The dissertation is being completed with the reference to the regime of the administrative, disciplinary sanctions and the overall presentation of observations and conclusions.
