STUDING GAS-EVOLVING ENZYMATIC REACTIONS BY MEASURING PRODUCED GAS VOLUME WITH GAS COLLECTOR PARISGIANNA
Summary:
Proteins are macromolecules created by the compound of a-amino acids. All proteins of organisms are formed by twenty specific a-amino acids called proteinogenetically. Amino acids are organic molecules containing two operating teams, an amine group (–ΝΗ2) και μία carboxyl group (–COOH). Enzymes are proteins that resolve chemical reactions (enzyme reactions) in organisms. As catalysts, they accelerate chemical reactions by decreasing the energy of activation. Enzymes present various degrees of specialization regarding the reactant substrate. The substrate needs to be connected to an area of the enzyme called active center for the enzymes to act.
Year after year, the importance of enzymes in applications of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Biomedicine is growing more and more. New enzymes are constantly discovered and studies in order to make up for the tremendous interest in improving the quality of human life. The chemical reactions taking place inside cells are facilitated by enzymes, which are proteins accelerating metabolic reactions and decreasing the energy of activation. The enzyme peroxidase is also produced by the kidney and resolves the conversion of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into water (H2O) and oxygen(O2). The oxygen produced creates air bubbles/effervescence. The construction and study of a test pattern which collects and measures the volume of the produced gases in a chemical reaction with adequate accuracy can assist in conducting simple, fast and repetitive experiments in the school laboratory. These experiments are ideal for drawing useful conclusions about the study of stoichiometry of reactions.
