Undoubtedly, Internet access has become an essential commodity in the digital era we live in. Being an active user of the Internet means that your data are processed, and often these data will contain personal information, raising a problem of personal data protection. The scope of this thesis is to examine how privacy is ‘’harbored’’ in the digital era, especially how personal data protection is achieved in cyberspace through legislation. In this context, it is crucial to examine both GDPR and ePrivacy Directive, with emphasis placed on consent as a lawful basis for processing personal data.
