Summary:
This thesis contains an analytical approach of two works based on the renowned folia; Rachmaninoff's Corelli-Variations, opus 42 and Ponce's Variations sur «Folia de España» et Fugue, both written around 1930. After a brief introduction on the folia, follows the historical background and the analysis of each piece separately. The thesis is concluded with a comparison of the two pieces, with special focus on their musical language and form, along with their influences and ambitions and with a brief commentary on the bibliography that was used.
