«The economic power of the European Union in the global economy. The consequences of the global financial crisis»
Summary:
In recent years, the study of international economic crises has been one of the most productive and dynamic fields of international political economy. The effects of international crises on power relations of the global economy are an aspect of particular interest, especially after the outbreak of the global financial crisis.
This thesis attempts to examine, for the first time in Greece, the consequences of the global financial crisis and the euro crisis for the economic power of the European Union in the global economy. In order to achieve this goal, it focusses on a detailed analysis of economic power as a variable of the contemporary international system by combining qualitative and quantitative analysis with descriptive statistics.
In view of the importance of the economic factor for International Relations, the assessment of economic power is crucial for the study of the general balance of power in the international system. Therefore, the central aim of this thesis is to empirically examine the evolution of the balance of power between the three great powers of the global economy focusing more in the European Union.
