Summary:
The present thesis aims to define the concept of giftedness and specify the characteristics of gifted students. In addition, it presents and recommends a methodological tool which educators can utilise in order to identify gifted students as well as a differentiated teaching scenario.
The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part, provides the theoretical background for the main concepts of giftedness and differentiated instruction. The second part, presents the case study of a gifted student in the Fifth Grade and the differentiated teaching scenario in Mathematics. The research was useful in drawing some conclusions. The methodological tool of the behavioural characteristics checklist along with the observations of the researcher were utilized for the identification of the student as gifted and the creation of a differentiated scenario that accommodates the student’s special needs.
