Four-string bouzouki sound library: Sampling and analysis
Summary:
This thesis concerns the creation of a sound library for the four-string bouzouki and the evaluation of its acoustic characteristics. The text begins with a historical overview of the evolution of the instrument through the ages. Considering the impact of the eigenmodes of the bouzouki soundboard on its timbre, prominent eigen-frequency analysis techniques are examined and considered in the experimentation process. Acoustic samples of the bouzouki were recorded, analyzed, and validated for tuning and loudness repeatability. Additionally, timbre analysis was performed on the harmonic spectrum of the samples. The thesis concludes with an overview of the process followed for the creation of a four-string bouzouki sampler, using the NI Kontakt sampling software. The sample is available for download.
