Summary:
Substance abuse is a major public health problem that is addressed through the participation of individuals in various rehabilitation programs. The choice of treatment program and the outcome of treatment are influenced to some extent by the characteristics of their temperament. The purpose of this paper is to study how temperament and personality influence the choice and effectiveness of the rehabilitation method used by people with substance use disorder. The research involves 53 people with substance use disorders who participate in therapeutic programs of KETHEA and OKANA. Data were collected using the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) to assess temperament characteristics and EUROPASI-B to assess the severity of addiction. The results of the research showed that the feature of the search for innovation influences the choice of the treatment program. Still, it turned out that the characteristic of self-direction affects the outcome of treatment. The conclusion of the research is that the temperament characteristics of people with substance abuse disorder affect their treatment.
