Summary:
In the following pages of this paper, a brief overview of the evolution of preschool education’s institution is provided from the Middle Ages to this days and age. The history of Preschool education and the history of Documentary are moving at a common pace, if we look at it a little abstractly. The institutional recognition of preschool education is in contemporaneous border with the invention of cinema. But also, when there will be the first educators, who will support the existence of a different approach, we will see that, respectively, there are the first filmmakers who create their own movements. Thus, the experimentation and the mood for improvisation create film collectives, as well as self-organized schools. However, there are also times in the year when Pedagogy and Documentary meet and make films for the school community. All the above are developed in the first chapter of the paper. In the second chapter, I use the documentary as a research tool to study non-formal education projects in 21st century Greece. The steps for the process of creating the documentary entitled "TO SHOL(E)IO MAS" are presented in detail. From the first acquaintance with the projects to the final corrections in the editing and the sound, the whole procedure of the last eight months is presented step by step. This is the time it took from the initial idea to the final presentation of this documentary. The use of the documentary as a research tool is explained in full detail, as well as in which way through all stages of production, the main goal was to answer the research questions, that were the following:
What is the way of operation of non-formal education projects?
What are their differences from other schools?
How does the documentary itself can be used to highlight questions?
From the selection process of the schools, to the interviews, but also the editing and the original music that was created specifically for the documentary, everyone and everything contributed to answering the questions.
