Rehabilitation of torn anterior cruciate ligament in basketball
Summary:
This paper was intended to gather information through the international literature, which is related to sports injuries, and more specifically to the rupture of the anterior ligament in basketball athletes. At first, studies related to sports injuries and their rehabilitation were sought. The review then recorded findings on the injuries of basketball athletes, and focused more on lower limb injuries. At the main chapter of this review, findings and information were sought from studies, in relation to the rupture of the anterior ligament in basketball athletes, and in relation to the main parameters of this injury, such as prevention and treatment, symptomatology and diagnosis, and rehabilitation of athletes after such injury. The most important results of the review showed that many severe injuries observed in sport are related to the knee joint, that incomplete rehabilitation leads athletes to re-injuries, that the majority of injuries in basketball are lower limb injuries and the majority of them are quite serious injuries, and that the most frequent injuries to bones or joint ligaments of the lower extremities in basketball athletes, involve injuries to the knee joint or leg joints. Finally, regarding the data that were collected for anterior hip rupture in basketball athletes, it appeared that torn anterior ligament affects more than 50% of knee injuries, that this injury is treated more rarely conservatively and several times surgically, that the effectiveness of these athletes and the chronic length of their career after surgical rehabilitation are significantly affected by their postoperative rehabilitation period, and that the latest data indicate the recommended duration of rehabilitation of athletes after surgical treatment of a torn anterior ligament, be from 9 months to 1 year.
