Translated title:
Covid-19 Pandemic and the Media: Exploring the news media framing with an emphasis on the financial impact and pandemic response
Summary:
The present dissertation focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has been presented via Mass Media. Specifically, the objective of this study is to record the representations of the economic effects of the pandemic via traditional and new media, i.e. how mass media covered the economic aspects of the pandemic, but also the restrictive measures of the government and whether they were targeted to creating a broader consensus on government policies or politicizing the pandemic.
For the verification of the research hypotheses, the methodology of content analysis is used (mainly quantitative analysis in combination with qualitative). Samples of content analysis comprise the publications of daily newspapers of nationwide circulation and different ideological content, as well as websites with high traffic and different ideological content, during the first lockdown period in Greece, from 10-03-2020 until 10-05- 2020.
Ultimately, this study holistically approaches the research questions and the project hypotheses that have been raised, and through the correlation of the research findings, it aspires to present the way that the Μedia presented the health crisis.
