Summary:
Football is one of the most popular sports in the world. For this reason, many new techniques are used in order to increase the performance of footballers both regularly and technically, as well as in reducing physical exertion. Small Sided Games (SSGs) are a new modern technique, which is used by coaches to increase and improve the performance of athletes. The aim of this review is to present SSGs and the effects they create on the technical, tactical and physical stage of the participants. In order to achieve this goal, mostly recent scientific literature was used for, but the small number of selected articles is a limitation. The results showed the important role played by competitive games in the aforementioned areas as well as the need for new research by the sports science community on this issue.
