Summary:
This study focuses on demonstrating the significance of legal pluralism, as a tool for contemporary law. Legal order’s formation is influenced, among other things, by the cultural background and parameters of each race, a fact that must be understood by the regulators of law. A second aim of this study is the presentation of the cultural characteristics of the Greek Muslim minority living in Western Thrace, as a prominent multicultural region in the Balkans. The Pomaks, Turks and Roma of the region are related through the Muslim religion, and they have coexisted for a number of years as a recognized minority in Thrace. Furthermore, the legal framework of Islamic law through the holy Muslim law and the legislative development of Sharia’s application within the Greek territory are also analyzed in this paper, as emphasis is placed on family and hereditary relationships, which are primarily governed by Islamic tradition. Lastly, this study aims to present all the issues and concerns that arise in a pluralistic legal order , both from extraterrestrial and domestic parameters.
