The present work focuses on the traits of the short story, as well as the conditions under which this specific literary genre was born and developed in Greece. Therefore it will be recorded the literary movement of European Romanticism and it will be presented how this above mentioned literary movement affected the modern short story. Finally, they will be included briefly representative short stories of distinguished writers and their critical analysis from America, Europe and Greece during The Old Athenian School
