Translated title:
"The Myth of Umm Kulthum: Music, Gender and Politics"
Summary:
Through three different narratives about the life and work of the Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, this work examines the process of myth-making. How does the narrator interpret the singer's myth and what is the "truth" that he creates in his own narrative? Through these three narratives appears the life and work of a dynamic woman who lived in Egypt (1898-1975) and managed until the end of her life to become a national symbol of the entire Arab world.Music, gender and politics are the main research areas through which you understand the way in which Umm Kulthum managed to build her career. The narratives that appear in the work answer in their own way the main question of the present work, "How did Umm Kulthum manage to become a national symbol of the entire Arab world?" and at the same time they are used to answer the next question of the work "How does the narrator interpret, construct and finally create his own "truth" for the myth of Umm Kalsum? ».
