Summary:
Lung cancer appears to be the second most common malignancy worldwide, with the highest mortality due to direct or indirect complications.
Purpose:
The purpose of this essay is the study of calcium disorders in patients with lung cancer and their correlation with clinicohistopathological parameters.
Methods:
A literature review was held of studies published between 1987 and 2021 int the English language in google scholar and pubmed.
Results:
Calcium disorders and especially hypercalcemia consists a common disorder in patients with lung cancer and mostly in non-small cell lung cancer, with the highest incidence in squamous subtype.
Hypocalcemia is not a common disorder and that is the reason why it is not a common subject of study.
The effects of calcium disorders seem to be capable of affecting the overall prognosis.
Conclusions:
Investigating and treating calcium disorders in lung cancer patients is important as it affects not only the mortality but also the quality of life of the patients.
