Summary:
Presentation of various insights of Spain through texts of Modern Greek travel literature. Looking into the travel impressions of Nikos Kazantzakis, Kostas Ouranis and Zacharias Papantoniou, different periods of the country before and during the Spanish Civil War are set off and mutual aspects of traveling in Spain are enlightened for these Greek writers. With the occurrence of the Spanish Civil War, Europe's attention falls upon this country of the Iberian Peninsula, thus making it the focal point of many writers from a lot of countries, who wish to visit Spain as foreign correspondents. At the same time, the exoticism and the numerous manners and customs of Spain enable the attraction of a number of intellectuals during the period between the two World Wars. Analyzing and comparing the three texts apart from the distinguishing features of each writer, common ground and certain subjects which are repeated and brought up in Traveling A' of Nikos Kazantzakis, Sol y Sombra of Kostas Ouranis and Travels of Zacharias Papantoniou are emerged, too. The history and the customs of the past, the war, the religion, the beauty and the picturesque landscape, the art, the Theotokopoulos' painting, the Cervantes' influence, the conflict of East and West are the fundamental parts in the travel impressions of the three writers and therefore these are the key topics of this research so as to highlight Spain in Modern Greek travel literature.
