THE PROGRESS OF FAR-RIGHT MOVEMENTS IN GREECE

The present thesis deals with the course of the extreme right movements in Greece with a reference point of the democratic transition. A notable criterion for dealing with this issue is the rise of the far-right ideology in the country and the consequences in the political arena while examining the objections that push a part of the electorate to turn to the extreme right.
This thesis embodies six chapters, while it concludes a summary of the concepts and information that are analyzed in the main body of this thesis. The first two chapters comprise a theoretical approach to the aforementioned subject, from the point of sociology’s view, while an attempt is made to clarify the term of the extreme right political party and its all related definitions. In the next chapter, a reference is made to defy the course of the extreme right parties in Europe, in order to make it easier to focus on Greece's ones accordingly.
Furthermore, the next two separate chapters present a reference to the year of restoration of the Democracy in the country (1974). The first movement focuses on the study before the dictatorial regime. While the other analyzes the composition of political formations in the extreme right party, from a period of the post-colonial time until today.
The last chapter studies the similarities and differences of the ideological characteristics of the far-right movement parties in Greece in contrast to the European ones. In this chapter additionally, the final assumptions of this study are presented as well.
