Summary:
Humour is a key component of human communication, and at the same time an element of the cultural identity of a society. People use humour in many aspects of their daily lives, both as a medium and as a communication strategy. The educational process is likely to involve humoristic elements, which can be found in the relationship between teacher and students, in the relationship between the students themselves, and in the relationship between the students with the learning material and the subject matter. This study examines the place and use of humour in the context of communicative language teaching, particularly for German as a foreign language. Based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which places humour at the higher levels of foreign language learning (C1 and C2), the use of humoristic elements in six teaching manuals of German as a foreign language (Aspekte neu, Aspekte Junior, Erkundungen, Station and Endstation) is examined and analysed with the descriptive-quantitative method.
