Language mediation in foreign language teaching.A didactic language mediation scenario using fairy tales as an example.
Summary:
It is a common belief that globalization and the digital age define the modern society as multicultural. Therefore, not only the need of language learning is an imperative process but developing and cultivating the mediation skill is also demanded.
The concept of language mediation is related to cultural competence, communication as well as interaction with the foreign culture. Moreover, its inclusion in the foreign language course enhances students' interest in the course, which is one of the most important dimensions of teaching practice. Finally, it does not promote a sterile theoretical knowledge, but enhances experiential contact with the foreign culture. This is, after all, the aim of learning a foreign language.
Specifically, in this thesis, the relevant linguistic theories are mentioned which in the second part are applied within a teaching scenario with learning activities that enhance the development of mediative competence using fairy tales as an example.
